Yarina Paniagua Cortes

Yarina brings over fifteen years of international teaching and leadership experience across IB DP, MYP and American curricula in Costa Rica and China. In addition to serving as a DP English A Language and Literature examiner, she holds three master’s degrees in Education—TESOL, Higher Education and Pedagogy—and earned a Certificate in School Management and Leadership from Harvard University. Her contributions to professional development and mentorship have supported teaching teams in building inclusive, collaborative practices.

Her approach to teaching reflects a strong commitment to student well-being and high-impact learning. Yarina values meaningful, authentic assessment practices that allow students to demonstrate learning in thoughtful and creative ways. She fosters a collaborative learning culture in which students feel supported to explore ideas, take risks and grow into confident communicators.

Outside the classroom, Yarina is a published researcher and accomplished classical flutist whose global performances have shaped her interdisciplinary approach. Born in Heredia, Costa Rica, she values genuine connection and enjoys celebrating community through culture, storytelling and music.
