Dear UWC Changshu Community members,

The Executive Committee of the Board of UWC Changshu (Exco) met during the week beginning 24th February to review the return date, to agree on a provisional plan and to approve this communication. Exco members extend their great appreciation to all members of the community including our parents, guardians and UWC National Committees, for the robust and supportive way in which everyone has worked together to respond to these exceptional circumstances.

Exco tasked the Principal to lead a Return Management Committee (RMC) to plan and make recommendations to bring the UWC Changshu community back to campus, with the aim that the “UWC Changshu campus must remain free of the COVID-19 virus.” With the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in Italy, leading to the temporary closure of UWC Adriatic, the impact on the UWC movement is no longer restricted to Asia. All UWC Heads recently received a message from UWC IO stating “our foremost task is to ensure that our community members remain safe and healthy, that our campuses remain coronavirus free, that we can enable the continued learning and teaching of our students and the graduation of the current IBDP2s.” This is also the objective of UWC Changshu.

UWC Changshu will abide by local authority's regulations relating to the opening of schools in Changshu.  We have made contingent plans upon this condition and no return travel should be booked until approval has been obtained by the relevant office. In line with its duty of care to the community, UWC Changshu will take all necessary actions to prevent the presence of COVID-19 on the UWC Changshu campus. In view of this the return of the community to campus has been prudently planned in measurable stages; prioritising DP2 students and their final examinations, in parallel preparing alternative venues for examinations, and continuing to provide high quality distance learning until the safe return of all members of the community is possible.

We will update all our community members as soon as we receive notification from the local government on the date of the reopening of the College.
